We predicted earlier in the year that vacations in Ireland were going to boom at all levels and sure enough its come to pass. Developments such as the Wild Atlantic Way have given a new dimension to private and luxury tours of Ireland. Its also fair to see that this has built on the momentum of other initiatives by the tourist industry here such as The Gathering and Limerick’s designation as Irish Cultural Capital in 2014.
We mentioned last month that official tourism numbers recorded were up significantly and this was being fuelled by North American and UK visitors, partly assisted by the growing connections and routes from Dublin and Shannon International Airports. Official figures released this week from those airports underline this, with Shannon Airport handling 40,000 passengers last weekend alone. In fact passenger throughput in Shannon is up 20% on 2013, and Dublin Airport passenger numbers are up by 15% on last year alone. This is all great news and of course its made the hotels busy and this is what we foresaw.
