The Royal Golf Club Dublin is 131 years old, making it the second oldest Golf Club in Ireland. The golf links cover 65 hectares of land and is uniquely on an island (Bull Island). It is a spectacular place to golf and can be accessed via the causeway or the famous wooden bridge. The rebuild and design of the links (by the famous Harry Colt) is very traditional and the redesign in the 1990’s by Martin Hawtree ensured that Colt’s original design was respected while upgrading. Christy “Himself” O’ Connor passed away this year on the 14th of May 2016. Christy had a long association with The Royal. He joined as a pro in 1959 and soon became a beloved ambassador for the Club. Hailing from Galway he became quickly known as one of Ireland’s greatest sportsmen (twice winner of the British Masters) and his loss is deeply felt within in the golfing community. Deservingly, 2009 saw the induction of Christy into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
