Ireland is awash with some of the worlds finest golf courses that exemplify the true beauty of the Irish Landscape. It is the rugged nature of those landscapes that produce courses that challenge and excite golfers globally and draw thousands to test their handicaps in the beautiful Emerald Isle every year.
We have scoured the country to find you the very best golf courses that Ireland has to offer including accommodation, dining, spas and much much more…
This week we take a look at the amazing Kildare Hotel, Spa & Country Club, better known as the K Club. The Resort is located in the village of Kildare, 50 kms west of Dublin in the south east of Ireland. Kildare town dates back to the 5th century and is a county rich is custom and history.
Kildare Village
The Irish word for Kildare is “Cill Dara” meaning “Church of oak”. Legend has it that Saint Briget established a community and founded a church beneath an oak tree on a hill on the edge of the Currage and the name “Church of the Oak” was amply applied to the area. Hearing of her work, the king of Leinster donated as much land as Saint Briget’s cloak would cover and by magic, her cloak cascaded over the entire Curragh and the land became hers.
Within this charming and quaint village lies the Kildare Hotel, Spa & Country club. It is a 5 star hotel which sits magnificently on the banks of the River Liffey.
The K Club Golf Resort Ireland
The Palmer Ryder Cup Course
The K Club golf resort comprises two outstanding golf courses. The first, The Palmer Ryder Cup Course, as the name suggests, was designed by world renowned Arnold Palmer. It is an astonishing course that lures and captivates golfers to bring their best game.
It is consistently ranked in the top 3 parkland golf courses in Ireland and golf holes of interest include the 4th Arnold’s Pick, 7th Michael’s Favourite, 16th Inish More and the 17th Half Moon.
The Smurfit Course
The second course, the Smurfit course was developed to ensure that golfers playing the course would have a completely different experience on each of the two courses. It is a very unique course as it is designed as an inland golf links with dune mounds with intense panoramas spanning the course. Golf holes of interest are the 3rd Kingrisher Realm, the 4th Heron Pind, the 7th Swallow Quarry, the 16th Little Grebe Dive, the 17th Ottor’s Holt and the 18th Swan Island.
If you are on a family friendly tour of Ireland then the Junior Golf Clinics which run during the summer will appeal to your children.
Accommodation at the The K Club
The hotel is a superb example 18th century French Chateau style architecture and contain many of the building stunning original features, artwork and antiques.
Accommodation at the K Club is outstanding, with individual rooms designed in complete sympathy to the buildings form. Rooms are sumptuous and exude luxury with walls adorned with original paintings and antiques. Opulence is followed through to the bathrooms which include hand-pained murals.
Accommodation is offered in superb rooms and suites that are as opulent as they are luxurious. Of particular interest is the Viceroy Suite, a luxurious space with an open living area. It features a four poster bed and Jacuzzi and ideal for a Deluxe Honeymoon Tour of Ireland.
Dining & Relaxing at the K Club
Choice seems to be the theme at the K club and like the choices of golf course offered to golfers, the restaurants offer the same challenge as there are a superb selection of dining experiences. Diners are offered a medley of dining choices from fine dining to bar food.
For those who feel like treating themselves in the afternoon, the afternoon tea is a must-have. The Chinese Drawing Room adds to the pampering with its outstanding views of the gardens and open log fires. Afternoon tea is served in a beautiful three tiered silver stand and comprises freshly baked scones with jam and cream, delightful pastries and finger sandwiches.
The River Room
The first of the main restaurants, The River Room Restaurant proffers diners a vivacious but laid-back ambiance and surveys the magnificent gardens of the resort and the tranquil River Liffey. The extensive menu is created using locally produced ingredients, many of which are grown on the resort itself.
The menu takes traditional cooking to an all new level where flavours burst in layers across every bite. How do these sound for mouth-watering dishes; for starters: Risotto of Tralee Bay Crab and for main: Pave of Fresh Atlantic Cod with Spinach & Almond Puree.
The Media Puzzle Lounge
The Media Puzzle Lounge was named after the horse that won the Dr. Smurfit’s Melbourne Cup. It has stunning large windows and French doors that lead out to the magnificent gardens. There is a wonderful choice of dishes from which to choose but I would highly recommend the 8 oz Grilled K Club Beef Cheese Burger and Fries.
The Legends Restaurant
This restaurant offers diners a casual dining experience in a very chic and light setting and as expected has glorious views across the Palmer Ryder Cup Course. Dishes range from Glazed Breast of Irish Duck to Roast Fillet of Salmon and from Crispy Wild Atlantic Fish in Beer Batter to Traditional Irish Stew. Flavour is the name of the game in these dishes and will leave you yearning to re-visit the restaurant again and again.
The K Thai & South East Asia Restaurant
I may have mentioned earlier that there was no shortage of choice in restaurants and I wasn’t no fooling around. The K Thai & South East Asia Restaurant offers diners an ornamental and airy setting in which to savour the very best Thai and Asian fusions of flavour.
Starters include the most flavoursome and delicately seasoned dishes such as Aromatic Silverhill Duck Pancakes, Panko Prawns and Tiger Prawns in coconut Batter while mains stimulate taste buds with unbelievable flavour with mains such as Drunken Prawns (My favorite) or the scrumptious Thai Red Curry.
The Vintage Crop Bar
This space is truly opulent and relaxing with a gorgeous bar and balcony area that surveys the carpet-like lawns and mature Irish Oak trees. It stocks a phenomenal range of international spirits and liqueurs from premium champagne to Cuban cigars such as Cohiba and Montecristo.
The K Spa
The spa at the K Club is absolutely gorgeous, from the moment you enter the doors, you will be engulfed with the scents of aromatherapy oils that instantly relax you. It has a simple clean décor and features include an outdoor hot tub, aromatic herb garden, treatment rooms, private suites, a hydrobath, a Vichey Shower and Rasul chamber.
The Spa offers a wide range of treatments for both men and women and include the Seaweed Peat Bath which contains seaweed from Sligo combined with peat from the bogs of Ireland. Also of interest are the Voya Organic Anti Ageing Facial using organic seaweed and the Seaweed Peat Wrap that conbines seaweed extracts with peat.
But the highlight for any Luxury Golf Tour Ireland Package is the Green Golfers Cure, a 55-minute massage that specifically targets back, neck, shoulder and leg area using organic seaweed oil. To wrap up this treatment (no pun intended), a cooling wrap is placed on the legs and head to sooth and relax you.

The mature estate expands 550 acres and contains a resplendent Victorian walled garden. If fishing is of interest to you, the resort offers fly fishing on the River Liffy which runs directly through the estate.
